ศาลหลักเมือง ถือเป็นศาสนสถานอย่างหนึ่งที่แสดงถึงความเชื่อในสิ่งศักดิ์สิทธิ์ และอำนาจเหนือธรรมชาติของชุมชน การสร้างศาลหลักเมืองขึ้นก็เพื่อเป็นการแสดงความยกย่อง ความเคารพ และความอ่อนน้อมต่อสิ่งศักดิ์สิทธิ์ทั้งหลายให้ช่วยดูแลรักษาบ้านเมืองตลอดจนชุมชนของตน

The Shrine Housing the City Pillar is another kind of Buddhism monument which reflects the belief of local Thai villagers in superstitious power. They believe that spirit are inherited in their houses and village. They induce the spirits to stay in the shrine, a symbol of the respect and faith, which they have built for them. This makes the people feel confident that they and their community will always be protected by the holy spirits from all harm.
